The primary problem in the fields of arts and professional education in our country is that the education is not associated with the necessity of productıvity. The starting point of the Department of Photography founded in Marmara University in 1994 is to search out the possibilıties to realize training in communication with the photography industry in Turkey. For that reason, a particular care is set up to realize that connection and meanwhile a considerable support is obtained. For the time being there is a Board of Advisors who are representing Turkısh photography arts and sector who are to discuss the directions of the education. 71ıe undergraduate program covers 4 years and Masters degree 2 years. Since the overall aim is to help students grow into qualified artists and set up the relation and counter relation between the photography and the other arts and also to foster the students with technical and aesthetic knowledge, the photography techniques and photography aesthetics and also general culture are taught in the first and second years. In the third and fourth years studies are carried on in expertness in photography and in the second semester of the senior year, students prepare their graduation projects on a subject proposed by the student and approved by the jury. Department of Photography arranges exhibitions, shows, discussions, panels, symposiums to continue and promote Turkı"sh Photograph Art. In addition, the department also activates in the field of photography literature and it reaches not only the students but also photography clubs and amateurs. These activities are welcomed with deep interest. Assuming that its inconvenient to remain deprived of a museum of any art branch, and to convey the relics of the past to the future generations, the Photography Department continues the necessary structural actnı ties for the foundation of “Turkısh Photography Museum.” The interested amateurs are provided with theoretical information and also shooting and dark room techniques in the workshops at the weekends. Through these activrties, the Photography Department not only instructs the students but also tries to attract the attention of the people to photography art.
